Rosa's beautiful work
Over the last few months, I feel like my poor blog has been limping along while we transition to our new home. Honestly, since we first put our house up for sale over a year ago. That whole experience upset my usual routines and I found it difficult to throw myself into projects when I had people traipsing through my house on short notice and not knowing where I'd be ending up...or when. Although I was often online (probably even more than usual), I found myself hopping from one thing to another, saving email to answer *when I had more time* and letting a lot of things pile up. I'm surprised that so many of you have hung in here with me and find it astonishing even, that some of you (Ann, Leslie, Mathea and Cindra, to name a few) have singled me out with awards. Thank you all for your kind words, however belatedly. I just love this community. *Mwahhh!*
Well, I don't know where this week went. On the weekend, my calendar looked like a big blank slate but after the ER adventure, my sleep was upside down for a few days and here it is, Friday already. I was surprised to read how many of you have had experiences with syncope, too, and wanted to add that my doctor recommended that if I get this light-headed, nauseous feeling again, the worst thing to do is what I did...get up and head to a ladies' room. For two reasons. First, the worst injuries from these episodes (barring cardiac involvement) are almost always from the fainting falls, usually head trauma. And since jumping up increases the likelihood of passing out, he suggested that if I ever experience this again, I lower myself to the floor, or even better, lie down there. So I'm trying to visualize doing this in a restaurant (the only place it's happened) and how goofy that would look. Ok, probably not as goofy as being wheeled out of the ladies room, strapped to a gurney. I think I'll just trim my portions from now on.
My appetite for Rosa's dolls hasn't waned since she started offering them several years ago. Her Guatemalan fabric versions have always been my favorites but I never was quick enough to snag one until a few weeks ago. I think this one may be my all-time favorite...it's going to look great in my sewing room.
It's been quite a while since I did a link list but I've accumulated a few that I think are worth passing along.
- Wanda (Exuberant Color) wrote an excellent post on sewing machine needles earlier in the summer. Well worth bookmarking.
- Love those Japanese craft/sewing books? Wrestling with the instructions? label-free, a group blog, has been posting detailed, photo-illustrated tutorials on how to painlessly decipher them. So far, there have been posts on these topics: an overview of Japanese craft books, sizing and supplies, tracing and cutting. More promised!
- Let's go Liberty fabric shopping in Japan! Check out this fun post from A Dress a Day. (Lots of good info in the comments, too.) Time to book another trip to Tokyo!
- How about this Noro hexagon throw Lisa's making over at Purl Mia Loggia? In her first post about this project, she provides the link to another blogger's tutorial for it. Not only is it a stunner, but it looks like it's knitted edge to edge...no seaming! A winner all around in my book. It's been a while since you've updated, Lisa. How's it coming?
- Janine (Feral Knitter) recently taught a workshop on Fair Isle colorwork and shared some shots of her students' work. One of her students, Carrie, posted an in depth review of her color explorations which took my breath away. When I look at these photos, my mind reels with ideas for new mitten work.
Speaking of which, I may cast on some new mittens tonight while watching the Olympics. The chairs here at the apartment aren't comfortable for me...too deep (think Edith Ann)...and the lamps aren't great for handwork, but I'm getting antsy so I'm going to give it a whirl. In any case, we'll be in the new house in a few weeks. Never thought I'd be missing my old living room set but there you go.
Wishing you all a lovely summer weekend!
I know well how moving can upset the regular rhythm of your day, let alone the blog, no need to apologise.
That Noro throw from the link at Purl Mia Loggia is amazing.

Y'know, smaller portions aren't such a bad thing, and if that's all it takes... :)
Happy weekend!

I have so sympathized with you throughout your moving process, having been through the same long drawn-out song and dance several times myself. Better days are coming!

I'm so glad it wasn't anything serious and you are feeling better.

Thanks for mentioning my blog. That needle post has really had a lot of readers.
I'm glad you got a diagnosis so quickly and can now learn to live with it. It is much scarier when you don't know what the problem is.

Oh my goodness, I missed a lot of excitement over here! So:
1. Glad you had a lovely visit with your friends.
2. Relieved that you are okay.
3. Happy to hear that you're move is on track.
And yes, you will have a lot of wallpaper to remove. I stopped in for a peek at their estate sale on Friday. I have scrapers and Trixie is in preschool Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Though she can be bribed at other times with Diego.

Blogging on the back burner is totally normal when there are other things going on. I love that Noro blanket, it's so pretty. I hope you continue feeling well and I was going to say I really missed seeing your pretty mittens, and then I read mittens! Sweet!!!
YAY Mittens!!!
Hope you're settling in, I swear each time I move it takes me longer to get settled.

Ahhh Jan, thanks for the Noro love! Oddly just got home from Guatemala and thought it was nice to be greated with Rosa's adorable animal at the start of your post, imagine my delight to find my blanket further down the post. Its still growing and I think will get a lot of attention while I catch up on the Olymipics!
