This may be my first photo-less post, but I wanted to check in briefly to let you know that we've arrived at our new home and things are starting to settle into place. The move, from packing up in Chicago to unloading in Cleveland, spanned a long, tiring 8 days. Once the movers pulled out, I was left here with too many boxes, many mismarked (grrr...) and M needing to get back to work. Translation: I'm moving at a slower pace than expected. After a week here at the new location, however, a few things are clear.
We made a good choice. We're in a location further south than our previous homes in Cleveland and, so far, we really like it here. We have the nicest, most friendly neighbors...a very welcoming neighborhood. The house needs some work...mostly cosmetic, a change in wall colors (Dover White!) and a few things that came up at inspection that we need to schedule work on. Most of my time has been occupied by unpacking boxes and standing, items in hand, thinking, 'And where's this going?' Three words come to mind: too much stuff!
In two weeks, we are scheduled to have 3 rooms painted...the living room, the dining room and the sewing room. I made it clear which room is to be finished first (*ahem*) and I'm not unpacking the contents of these until the painting is completed, so it still looks very unsettled around here. I can wait, though. In the meantime, I've been busy finding my way around the immediate area, hunting out the nearest Home Depot and Target, checking out cleaners and grocery stores...settling in.
I've had lots to post about, but sadly, my computer monitor didn't survive the move. So although we have cable access, I don't have a functioning computer. (Can I post from an iPad? Haven't really had time to play around with that.) M hooked his work laptop up to our modem this weekend and I ordered a new computer...we are quite overdue...so in a week or two, I should be fully back in business. I took the opportunity to post this evening before he disconnects it for work tomorrow and want to acknowledge all of the comments and well wishes you have left on my last couple of posts. I've been able to use my iPad to stay *somewhat* connected during this transition period, but for some reason, the blog comments are not all being forwarded to my email. I just noticed many of them this evening as I signed on here to write this...my apologies for not responding. Believe me, I'm anxious to get back to some normalcy here and pick up our conversations where we left off.
It's been a long, exhausting weekend of more unpacking, hunting for as yet unlocated items, moving furniture around and clearing the garage of many, many empty boxes. Would you laugh if I told you I am filling boxes for Goodwill as I unpack? I have declared this house the last stop. If I don't need it here, I won't need it (she says with confidence). Back soon!
