I knew it was today yet I wasn't prepared. June. When I turned the calendar page this morning, it was a visual shock. Staring me in the face. Let the meltdown countdown begin. K's wedding is later in the month and there is so much left to do. Until this morning, I felt I was pretty much on top of things. Lists everywhere, items being crossed off daily. But there's something about the shock of that last turn of the page, when the days are staring back and clearly numbered. That nagging feeling that whatever you are taking care of, you should be doing something else. Right now.
The wedding is quite a distance away, so there's that. Travel plans, packing. And it will be at a resort, so all of the family, both sides...grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins...will be spending some extra time there. Meaning additional planning for a beach vacation. K's Japanese family, whom he lived with for a year in college and who've become like family to all of us, are planning to come from Japan with Molly and will stay with us at our condo. More coordinating. And we'll be hosting a dinner the evening before the wedding. More details...lists...folders. Breathe in. Breathe out.
In the meantime, the quilting continues and the granny squares multiply. I'm one square shy of my May target. And still waiting for that darn backorder of colors. The light yellow did work as I was hoping...a little *pop*, though I prefer it in small doses and plan to keep it contained to only the first two rings in occasional blocks. The spice color was a bad mistake. See it up there, the dull orange, right side, second down? That will be edited out and put aside for a different project.
I didn't try the dark purple, Damson, as I'm considering using it as the outlining, border color and I'd prefer it not to be repeated in the blocks. Originally I had been thinking about using an off white or possibly the traditional black, but since I'm using the black for the outline on this quilt (progress continues!), I think the purple will be a better choice.

Breathe in, breathe out, admire your granny squares. :)

I love the berry colors in the granny squares -- the purple will make a great border. Everything else will happen. Even if it doesn't happen exactly how yo planned, it will happen. Enjoy!

The granny squares look fantastic! Love the colors you have chosen for this project (I find purple very difficult to work with, but it looks really good here!)

May your busy hands help you cope with the busy days ahead.

It looks wonderful and the purple border will be great!
I understand the underlying stress of wedding. My baby (who is 27 today!) moved their wedding from next May to this August! Gasp! So much to do. I haven't gotten my dress yet and the tasting for the dinner is in July. AAAHHH!

You need to listen to the Jimmy Buffet song, "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On." I promise it will help! Especially if you drink a nice big margarita at the same time.

Ha! Now I know where I get it. Except the wedding is but a blip on my countdown to THE MOVE. Can't wait for the break!

Exciting! Love the granny squares!

Loving those granny squares -- great colors Jan! Enjoy your month of planning -- it will be gone before you know it. I still feel like we're planning ours and it was a year ago! ;-)

Good luck with everything! I had the same feeling yesterday - we close on our house on the 30th. OH MY GOD!!!
Everything will be wonderful! And your granny squares are perfect!

I'm sitting here taking it all in and observing. I will be in your shoes with a destination wedding of a kid, in about 3 months. And ours is in a foreign country, adding just that one more added level of interest/stress. You will get there. (We both will!)
LOOOOOVE how the granny squares are taking shape, colorwise.

I'm ahead of you in attending a long distance wedding -- this weekend! But luckily I only have to be an aunt. I can't imagine how the bride did so much organizing without her parents, but everything seems to be ready, and her mother's parents are having their 60th wedding anniversary -- so another dinner to go to! I have my outfits ready for the suitcase (but what trauma buying clothes, sigh)
anyway, I haven't looked at blogs in about a month so I have a lot to go through, so don't be surprised if you get multiple comments. Love the granny squares --- I have two different sets in hibernation and was hoping to get them out this summer. No such luck yet -- just too buy with the house (roof and kitchen work), travel, and this wedding and another coming up. Peeked at your flickr -- thanks for loading all those Japanese quilts -- something to go back to and drool over. Anyway, mazel tov and all that! Maryjo

PS forgot to ask -- how many squares are you doing? I started mine when I was recuperating from my broken arm and just made a pile, but don't know how many to make!

Those squares are so cute! I bet it is so much fun to make all those and put them together!
Thanks for letting me know about your tenugui post. I've linked that post to my FAQs. I'm sure everyone will appreciate reading that. I don't know if I've ever told you this, but I discovered your blog way before I started my own blog. I really love reading your blog;)

I do love that hex quilt and am glad you are still labouring away at it.

Love the squares and love the purple for the border. I am on a one-person crusade against white or off-white borders for things that have such yummy saturated colors. Attic24 has frogged hers and I was so relieved. Save the light borders for pastel and light colors squares!
Hang in there, the wedding will be great.
