Zingy
My basket blocks were making me yawn so before taking them down to pack into the UFO box, I decided to try some of my zingy new fabrics to inject a little life into the assortment. I think it worked, though frankly, I'm not sure where this is going. I did put some of my shot cotton swatches up alongside the the blocks and they set the prints off nicely. More stewing required, though I'm considering some wild applique borders as in so many of the Japanese quilts I loved at the Tokyo Quilt Festival.
Or not. *grin* Stay tuned.
Finally I seem to be emerging from my recent project drift. I think mentally I had framed the summer as *sell the house and move* months, but now that the school buses are driving by in the mornings (and the house isn't sold...small detail,) I, too, feel like it's *back to business* time. This week I was supposed to be here, kicking back with my old Cleveland quilting pals for a few days...a perfect transition from this seemingly endless summer. Plans needed to be postponed at the last minute however (not by me,) so we'll try again in a few weeks. The next couple of months are going to be really busy for me...busy in a good way...so this week gave me some time to start getting organized a bit. Lists, lists and more lists. New projects. I've never really been a summer person. Bring on the fall!
I know it's only August 17. Indulge me.

Oh My Oh MY!!!words fail to express how much I love these blocks-bring on the zingy colors and patterns-Oh, and the fall..I'm with you on that as well. I'm sooo over the soggy, damp, sticky mess that is August.

I really like the way the new zingy blocks brought the quilt together. I'll have to remember that on my next quilt. Thanks for the inspiration!

Feels like fall here too (currently 52 degrees) so your post makes sense to me. I love your basket blocks - you have such a great eye for color and patterns. Love the mix of applique with blocks too so I'm waiting to see what you come up with.

Your basket blocks excite my eyes -- I want to "read" the fabric in every one.

This is a great start! Wild appliqué borders would be great! I don't appliqué much--I would probably do a wild PIECED border. Some crazy sawtooth or something.

WOW!

Those zinger baskets really make the quilt! Amazing how those shot cottons do nothing for it all of a sudden...
I'm glad you didn't post for 10 days, that makes less for me to catch up on while I've been down!

The basket block was what drew me to quilting over 20 years ago. I think your pattern and fabric selection are delightful and the perfect thing for the doldrums of mid-August.

Wow, I like the "zing" in those quilt blocks. I'd love to see the wild border as well!

Jan, great to see you have lists of projects, I love lists also, they get your brain sorted, and love the cooler weather: all the better to be inside creating without the 'should be outside in the sunshine' guilt! Love your baskets. Let the fabric lead on. . .

Do you know what the red fabric is in the basket on the right with the white and black egg-shaped dots is?
