Come on-a my house

All of those articles you're reading about the current slowdown in home sales?  They would seem to be right on target.  In 12 days, we've had two showings.  This for a house that sold within the first week the last few times it's been for sale.  Our realtor called today and assured me it's just the market.  He held an open house at another listing Sunday, on the same block as two other open houses, hoping to draw buyers to look at several in one stop.  No one came.  Almost unheard of.

Naturally, my inclination has been to keep everything shiny and bright, fresh and showable on a moment's notice.  (*M'am. I'm a realtor from Rinkydink Realty and I have a buyer who's interested in seeing your house. Would that be possible, today?  Great!...We're in the driveway.*)

Today, instead of sitting here drumming my fingers on the tabletop, I decided to cook something up.  Want to stop by for a piece of cake?

don't despair... we've had the same problem last year and it was so depressing. What was wrong with our house? it's hard not to take it personally, but IT IS all depending on the market. We kept seeing house we wanted to buy being snapped up by other people and that was VERY demoralising.

BUT in the end it all worked out for the better. Sooo, chin up... and carry on 'baking'. Those look very cute.

What cute blocks! I especially like the chocolate mint and the cherry torte.

I thought of you today as I listened to an NPR story about the sluggish housing market--hang in there. Your delicious diversions are utterly charming! Fabulous use of fabrics. What fun!

Don't they say baking smells help you sell a house? Well, I would think a lovely baked goods quilt could help, too ;-) On the serious side, when we sold our last home, we set a "panic" date by which we would drop the price. Our offer came on the panic date... and it all went wonderfully.

Ahh. I wish I could send some of the house hunters from down here up to your area. Good luck! And I bet that it will happen much sooner than you expect- and when you least expect it and the house is a mess! :)

They all look delicious...could I have one of each? Seriously, those are so cute! Hopefully they'll keep you distracted from the house-selling woes. I'm sure it will all come together soon.

I feel for you. Nothing is worse than trying to sell a house and living in the limbo of not knowing when the next chapter of your life will start. Hang in there.

Love the cake blocks.

The cherries are my favorite, love the movement in those wavy lines. What a fun idea for blocks.

yummy yummy - I'm there!

Bummer about the slow market - but he right buyer WILL come!
Loving your pie/cake blocks - how simple and how very CLEVER(Just like all the best inventions, you think "Why has no one done this before?) COOL!!

Hang in there with the market. I've got friends in the US who were exactly the same - no one showed for the open house. They did sell and are on their way to France.

Gorgeous blocks - Cherry Torte - yum.

Great bunch of fabrics... I can't wait to see the layout... Sure make me want to visit a bakery/ice cream shop!

Sending home selling vibes your way. I'll be over for some cake. :-)

I love your dessert! I'll be right over for a slice :-) I don't envy you- trying to keep the house clean and actually live in it.

Hang in there! There is nothing fun about not being able to live in your house for fear you might "mess it up." I've had more than one realtor call and ask to show the house and give me five minutes warning! It will sell!

I hope you are able to sell your home quickly - that must be frustrating. Wow, your cake blocks are so incredibly cute!!

This must be so frustrating. I hope it turns around soon for you. At least it's not affecting your crafting because those are some seriously cute blocks!

What a neat idea for quilt blocks!
I hope the slow sale isn't messing up your family's schedule too much.

My mom kept muffin batter ready to pop in the oven when someone was coming to see the house. :) Where we sold in NJ our realtor said not to bother with any open houses unless we really wanted one. She said the almost never sell a house from an open house. Of course open houses are a basis of lots of the shows on HGTV so I guess it depends where you are!
Best of luck. Having just moved I can relate to the angst!

we wanted to sell our house and move back into town, but antique tobacco barn floors and a ridiculously overpriced cooker (husband's taste in appliances runs to the extreme, hence the AGA) basically got us laughed at by a realtor. We built this house seven years ago, and were told it had actually 'depreciated' in value, because we'd spent too much on floors, good reproduction trim, Marvin custom windows, and a forty-year roof. Bummer. We are well and truly trapped. Saw lots of pretty houses up on North Meridian Street... I can't ever remember seeing so many for sale before. The right buyer will come along for you. I just think too many people are slacking away at 'vacationing' since school's out.

I love the yummy cake blocks. I'd always sneak back to look at your lemon cake wedge. The new 'flavors' are better than real... no calories, no crumbs, and you can fondle them without getting sticky bits all over your clothes! Cami (again, blog-commenting tanked on xanax.oops.)

Hmm - maybe if you throw in some of that cake, that would help with the showings! Hang in there. I've read that homes are still selling - it's just taking a bit longer.

Just as cute as Pie!

lovely squares! The market right now is terrible, my parents have been trying to sell their house for a year with no takers...hopefully yours does better!

Your "cooking" looks good! I have the same cherry fabric in my stash! I like your complimenting fabrics. I'll have to use mine the same way. Say "yoroshiku" to your daughter for me.

I'm sorry that the houses are moving slowly in your area. I think it's just the slump while people are out vacationing. In our area it seems like people try to buy houses during the summer just before school starts. So maybe after the 4th it'll pick up.

In the meantime those pie blocks are simply yummy!

I don't envy you the position you're in with the house being on the market. Good luck with that. In the meantime, I'll also have a piece of each, thank you very much!

Best wishes for better luck with your house. I'll keep a good thought.

Oooo the cakes look so yummy! Those fabrics are fantastic! Oooo house selling is such a drag. I bet the house looks great inside though.
